1. SAMWEL JAPHET
Samwel is a boy with 17 years who lived on the
streets since he was a little child and lived for 7 years on the streets.
Through the street outreach Nyakwesi mate Samwel who seemed to not be
interested child to join any trainings. Nyakwesi invited Samwel to the training
centre just to see others training and sleep during day time because on the
streets they do not get time to sleep nor to rest. It was 2011Samwel started to
come to the training centre and not showing any interests in learning than
sleeping most of his time until departure time. Samwel was not well health
wise, he had strong cough and his stomach was not looking normal as it was big.
one day during training sessions he got seriously sick, coughing non-stop and
blood and pus came from his mouth when he was coughing, it was so tight
situation for Makini organization because Organization had no money to take him
to hospital at that moment, many things was voluntary support from Nyakwesi the
founder and some friends and all Nyakwesi saving was given to kids as
transportation and other amount was already paid for a food and water
distributors to kids when they get training's. Nyakwesi tried to contact another
organization for a support to take him to hospital, the organization after the
phone cut, they never respond to any calls again from her nor reply. Nyakwesi
decided to take Samwel to the hospital by calling a Bajaj (Car-motorcycle with 3
tires) knowing she don’t even had money to pay for the bajaj, on the way to
hospital she had to contact one of the relatives to help on that situation
which was successful. Samwel was already in a critical condition, after
reaching to the hospital he had to be attended quickly to be saved. After some
weeks to pass, Samwel started to feel better but he was advised to stop the
substances he was using like sniffing gums, marijuana, smoking cigarettes, and
stop using heroine.
Samwel stopped using all kind of substances after several
counselling sessions with him, and he started learning with the group, and became
active and more confident to explore his talents. Samwel Japhet is now a
professional dancer with a diploma of dance/contemporary and traditional dance.
Samwel attended to many festivals and dance invitations in and outside Tanzania
like in Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Russia, South Africa, Europe
and many other places.
Samwel and his fellow four colleagues managed to open a
company called Nantea Dance Company and he is doing well with his company. Samwel
is one amongst thousands of children supported with Makini organization under
Nyakwesi Mujaya supervision. We are more
than proud to have success stories like the one from Samwel Japhet.
